I had a bit of a shock on Friday when I checked the colours for this week's challenge before I set out to make my card! I came to the horrible realization that I didn't have any of the exact colours for this challenge - aaaack!! A very humiliating position to be in as a DT member.... hanging my head in shame! With no time to hit my LSS, I had to substitute big time!! Elegant Eggplant and Rudy Red for Rich Razzleberry and Dusty Durango, and thankfully, I had some card stock from my local LSS that was a close match to Sahara Sand and Basic Grey. Needless to say, my feathers were more than a little bit ruffled, and it carried over into the making of the card! Oh joy...
I actually quite liked these colours together, but getting them to work together was whole other story LOL! After playing with some sketches and mixing the colours around, I finally settled on using this week's OCC sketch. Phew! Part two done :D
The flower is made from an old SAB set that has never been inked up - oh my! I embossed it with white EP on Eggplant cardstock twice, cut them out, layered them, and added a crystal brad to the middle. The Sahara Sand colour has one of the images from Verve's Accent Notes stamped on it in VersaMark. While stamping it, I quickly realized having PTI's Giga Guidelines would have been a great help! One of my Michael's ribbon bin diving adventures produced some grosgrain ribbon which I think is a very close match to Rich Razzleberry, and I was happy to be able to finally use my Fleur De Lis punch. A small tag called it a day, about two hours after I started! On days like Friday, one must be happy about the little things LOL!
Enjoy getting some inspiration from the rest of the Curtain Call Crew, as well as our June guest designer, Christina MacLaren.

You did a great job with especially given all the substitutions you had to make, Marisa! I would have been in a panic...but it turned out beautiful! I just love all your layers and shapes and the fabulous Fleur-dis-lis on your "Sahara Sand" layer!
ReplyDeleteMy sale is over...I'm so glad! I was so beat on Friday I didn't think I would make it through Saturday. Now my son is playing baseball with another team IN ADDITION to his first team. So, he has 8 games this week! It's all good, though! I'm looking forward to the slower pace!
This is so incredibly gorgeous, Marisa! I love how the flower's petals almost mirror the scalloped circle. So elegant.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a few spare minutes to breathe and enjoy your last few quiet days at home. :) I know we teachers always look forward to summer and getting "rid" of our kids, lol. Now I know how parents feel the FIRST day of school. But I look forward to the time to rest and recover so that I can face the new school year renewed and re-energized.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
I think it's gorgeous, Marisa! You improvised well, my dear:) That bold, layered flower is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYour substitutes look perfect, Marisa. I love this crisp and happy card. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteLovely card Marissa! Love the embossed white flowers layered on to of each other - they really pop! Don't worry about having to substitute - I had to swap DD for Really Rust (and if SU hadn't brought out RR last month in the UK I would have had to swap that too!!). Well done on the challenge!
ReplyDeleteSimply fabulous, Marisa! You made these colours sing... and the subtle background is superb! Hugest hugs, xxx

ReplyDeleteYour card is wonderful! I love the layered flower, and the sweet little sentiment! I think you did a great job using what you had to match the colors! As a Bazzil cardstock & Clearsnap ink user....I have to improvise a lot on the colors. You just have to do what you have to do! And it looks fabulous!
