ReplyDeleteMarisa, what a very generous giveaway! I love that this giveaway is taking place during the 12 days of Christmas -- so old fashioned! Favorite memory? Favorite book? Believe it or not I'm a rabid reader so choosing one is more difficult than you might think. I've been unemployed so I've been ordering them from the library and one I bought even having read it is Jesus by James Martin, SJ. It's his story of his pilgrimage through the Holy Land -- he's a Catholic priest (the author of course, not Jesus) -- and he writes about what it was like for him to make the pilgrimage and he throws in some theology as well. I bought it because I think it's worth reading again and again; I think different aspects will be meaningful different times I read it. As for memories, my father died in July; July 27, the 43rd anniversary to the day of his own father's death. My dad never got over my mother's death two year's earlier and he suffered mentally as well as physically during those two years. He prayed often for God to take him, he refused the last part of the Last Rites of the Catholic Church -- the healing part of the Sacrament -- he kept trying to distract the priest but I knew what he was doing, his mother had done it, dad would pretend he was confused and the poor priest would try to bring dad back to the prayers. His funeral was a wonderful party with friends from years and years ago -- my adult kids were so surprised and gratified by seeing people from so long ago.
ReplyDeleteProbably more than you wanted or expected, but there you have it! A book and a memory.
Love, Mary

It is hard to choose a great memory.. But I guess it would be here at the end of 2014... That we both made it through this year, together. That is what matters the most. Happy New Year to you.

ReplyDeleteI have looked around and love what I see, so I subscribed. It's been a rough couple of years for my family. I guess my best memory this past year, was when the doctor told my 25 year old son that he could take off his life vest because his heart was working so much better. Prayers answered. God is good. Thank you so much for sharing.

ReplyDeleteDo scrapbooks count as books? If so, my most recent scrapbook is definitely my favorite. If not, I'd have to think about the love/hate relationship I have with the kid's book "The Giving Tree." It always makes me cry, but I love it anyway.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas memories are those when my dad went into our woods, dug up young spruce trees, brought them into the house and decorated them! He loved putting on all blue lights, family heirloom ornaments and that silver tinsel, one strand at a time. The trees were absolutely breathtaking when he was done. Recalling these trees is a very nostalgic thing for me to do.
