Inkspirations Sketch Challenge #91

Another great sketch by Keesh for us to work with this week, and in all honesty,  I don't feel like I gave it justice with this card.  May have to give it another go before the week is over.

It's a pretty basic card, and the good part is it got assembled from my container of "scraps".  Try to remind myself to delve into this container more often as the ingoing exceeds the outgoing about 20 to1, or more...

For Card For Diva Andrea

 
This card combines this month's Diva Dare with this week's Mojo Monday sketch.  Diva Andrea dared us to create a hand made embellishment on your card.

As luck would have it, my "left over" bin coughed up a hand made flower which I made a few months ago and never used.  Better yet, it was pink, one of  Diva Andrea's favorite colours :)   Keeping that in mind, I decided to up the ante and attempt to make a shabby card - another one of Andrea's loves.  So here you are my Diva friend, a card made especially for you (((hugs))).

I so much fun using a variety of Verve dies and coordinating stamps on this card.  Have I told you lately how much I love Verve!  Can't imagine stamping without it :)   Thanks for following your dream, Julee!!

Short weeks are great, but you always seem to have to pack five days into four so they are always busy.  My daughter and I are redecorating and organizing her room and are having so much fun doing it together.  She has left the poster stage behind and is wanting a more "grown up" room, so we got some fun things at JYSK on the weekend and will continue our renos this weekend.  Great mother daughter time - as long as I'm the shelf putter upper and closet organizer but not the interior decorator per say LOL!  Precious times of togetherness and watching her grow in her personality and style.  She is such a treasure...

Look Ma, No Maple Leaf!

I just loved this color combo over at The Paper Players this week so had to play along.  Another yummy fall color combo.   I combined it with last week's Freshly Made sketch and came up with this card.

I am proud to say there is no maple leaf on this card (though it was darn hard passing it up I tell you!).  Now that you have gained consciousness again, let me introduce you to one of the other leaves of this PTI die set - the oak leaf.  We have a few oak trees in the area but not a lot so the shape is growing on me.  Any guesses as to what we have a lot of around here, wink, wink :)  Maybe once they start falling and I have to rake wet maple leaves off the lawn into the recycle bags my love for them will dwindle LOL!

Until then, I will try my hardest to stay away from leaves on my next few cards, but not making any promises...don't want to get caught telling a lie now do I ;o)

Giving Thanks For This Sketch

Blogger ate my post scheduled for this morning - bad blogger!!!  So, after some typing, here it is a bit later than intended.

As I mentioned yesterday, it didn't take much to twist my rubber arm into making a card using a maple leaf in lieu of the heart on this sketch.  Sorry.....just can't put these leaf dies down!

My MME papers came to rescue once again - oh how I love those papers and wish I had the budget to get them all!  The only glitch in the card making process was my lack of attention to the orientation of the stripes on the mustard panel before I cut it.  Think there were a few Verve Divas sending me subliminal skewed panel messages as the stripes ended up on the diagonal instead of a vertical orientation.  After a big "sigh..." I decided to let them bask in all their glory rather than cut another circle.  A bit of wood grain embossing in the background finished things off perfectly.

Thanks to everyone for the Thanksgiving well wishes.  We had a fabulous weekend, a great meal Sunday night, and are now enjoying all the yummy leftovers along with some turkey soup I made yesterday.  Ummmm, ummmm good :)

Looove This Sketch!

 
I just looooved the sketch Verve Diva Teresa came up with this week!  I must confess I reeeeally had to restrain myself from putting a maple leaf where the heart LOL! 

I pullout out some great Stella and Rose DP and Verve's loopy bloom die as it was a perfect match to the flowers on the DP.  The sentiment is an old Rubber Soul stamp I've had for ages and have sorely  neglected, but today was its turn to shine as the length and font were perfect.

My faux stitching is from my All In A Row set and my 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 square card became a 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 card as I keep adding mattes LOL.

Super fun sketch, and if I were a betting woman, I think I would bet that my rubber arm will be twisted to use this sketch again to make a fall card with a leaf on it...I know...resistance is futile LOL!

Triumph Over Fear

Where there is a sketch for a round card, I am there LOL!  Thus my playing along with this week's Tuesday Morning Sketch challenge.  I love how they are promoting Breast Cancer Awareness month.   In addition, if you play along and use pink on your card for each week's challenge this month, you get entered into a draw to win some blog candy.  Great sketch, great cause, great time to play along :)

I immediately thought of Verve's Words of Wisdom set when I saw the theme as there are a  few sentiments in that set that are perfect for the fight against breast cancer (or any other form of cancer for that matter).  I chose this sentiment because it is a statement I'm sure every woman who  has received "the news" has had to live through.

A good friend of mine as well as a teacher and parent at our school have worked through their own battles against breast cancer, and thankfully they are all survivors :)  That being said, please take full advantage of your annual mammogram because in each case I've mentioned above, it was early detection that saved their lives.  Yes, it's (o)(o) to (_)(_) for a bit, but it's well worth it!!  Enough said, I'll get off my soap box now :) 

My rolled roses look like they haven't been watered for a while as I'm still trying to master rolling these puppies up so they look a bit more put together.  If anyone has any tips, I'd love the advice!  Until then, hopefully the half pearl in the center focuses your eye there LOL!

Inkspirations Colour Challenge #90

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all you Canadian bloggers out there :)  We have soooo much to be thankful, amidst the struggles and trials of the past year, and that in itself is worth celebrating, just as the pioneers did many years ago!

I'm looking forward to a relaxing long weekend as we only have a small group for dinner on Sunday.  Hubby is cooking a turkey, I'm sues chef and clean up girl and  mom is making her delicious cherry pie and cranberry sauce.  It's been an extremely hectic and stressful September, so this will be a wonderful long weekend to just kick back, get some R and R, and enjoy some quality family time :)
Now on to the card!  I loooove pink and brown together so this was a great colour combo for me to work with, unlike the last one we had...cough, cough...LOL! 

I combined it with a SCS sketch challenge from about a month ago, and since I don't have any Rich Razzleberry (go figure!) I used Rose Red instead. 

My PTI flower dies were calling my name once again.  In addition, my polka dot obsession rose to the surface while making this card so out came this wonderful Seeing Spots embossing folder.   The end result - this card :)

JUGS a La Maureen

 
I just had to play along with this week's JUGS (Just Us Girls) sketch because it was designed by my blogging buddy Maureen, who is their guest designer this month.  She creates great sketches and this one was another wonderful one to work with and it came together really quickly, which is an added bonus.  Must be her Diva Dust floating my way :) 

The DP is from Pink Paisley which I won as part of some blog candy a while back, and since there was a flower on the sketch and I loved the crimped flower on my card a few days back, I decided to use my PTI flower dies to make anther one.  Hey, at least it isn't a maple leaf LOL!

I'm thinking I should have maybe matted the designer paper, but it's too late now!  My final touch and tribute to Maureen is using some bling by the sentiment like she does on her cards.  When you add the button I used on the flower and you've got "buttons and bling" the name of her blog :)  Cheers, Moe!  Loved the sketch.

Big and Small Blessings

It's contest week over at the Mojo Monday blog, and as luck would have it I had time to play along - love when that happens.  Nothing better than a chance at winning some Verve stamps :)

Since I am on a Fall themed card making binge, I thought I would make, yes....another card with a maple leaf on it.  Sorry, just can't help myself!  The maple trees on our street are starting to turn colour and I could sit and stare at them for hours.  At the rate I'm using these dies, I may need to get a back up set LOL!

I decided to go rustic and do some distressing on this card because I'm giving it to my hubby for Thanksgiving so he knows how thankful we are to have him - not to mention his great cooking skills which we will get to enjoy this Sunday as we celebrate Thanksgiving!

Loooove pairing this distressed stripes embossing folder with these leaf dies, and it was great fun using some very unloved hardware on the card and adding some twine in lieu of ribbon.  Since most men don't have a clue as to what is "trendy" in the card making world, it was a perfect way to use up some extra supplies.  Mind you, based on the amount of hardware supplies I have, there needs to be a whole lot of masculine card making going on before its all used up LOL!

Fall Flower

Loved this week's Verve sketch - no skewed panels or multiple layers to have to contend with...happy sigh... :)   Thanks, Amber!

This Stella and Rose DP has some great fall colours so out it came.  I resisted the urge, though it was touch and go for a while, to make another card with a maple leaf  LOL!

Instead, I used my favorite card them of flowers.  These PTI flower dies are so much fun and I used all three dies in this set to create this flower.  SU's leaf die finished the flower nicely, the turquoise ribbon gave the card a nice pop of colour (though it looks much more blue in the picture than it actually is) and since the right side seemed a bit empty and no stamp image or sentiment I used worked for me, I added a few butterflies.  Also entering this at the Ribbon Carrousel.

Finished my work for hubby for the time being so I get to spend some time creating today - yeah!   Hope your day allows you a little creative time too :)
