Christmas Card Gone Wrong

I'm not exactly thrilled with this card.  Maybe it's because I started off wanting to make a Christmas card and it didn't end up that way, or the colour combo just isn't working, but something just isn't sitting right with me.

My daughter says it's because of how I layered the owl's eyes, because the black stands out so much it looks like the eyes are following you LOL!  Do believe she is correct.  Poor little guy looks more like a Halloween leftover.  Note to self:  don't do his eyes this way again.

So...I am limping to the finish line of this month's Verve sketches and have butchered poor Andrea's sketch.  Sorry my friend...and there isn't even a skewed panel in sight LOL!  Good thing tomorrow is another day :)

What's In It?
Stamps: Circular Sayings (Verve)
Paper: Heidi Grace Designs, Real Red, Black, Turquoise
Ink: Black
Accessories: Owl and Bird Punches (Stampin' Up), Scalloped Oval and Oval Nesties, Tim Holtz Wood Grain Embossing Folder, Crimper, SU Lattice Embossing Folder, Fiskars Threading Water Punch, Black Half Pearls, Dimensionals

LOL! I know the problem! We are our own WORST critic. I honestly don't see anything wrong with it :) I love red and blues together and that owl is so cute!!
Stop being so down on yourself...I think you pulled it off wonderfully :)

I actually think his eyes are pretty darn cute! I also like the colors. . .but if you were planning a Christmas card, I can see why it isn't meeting your expectations. LOL! It is a cute card though!!!

I think it's so funny when we can't stand our own creations, and others just love them. I think your card is very pretty and am glad you shared it, because now I know what to do with the lattice embossed folder that I had have and never use! :)

oh, you are too hard on yourself! I love the eyes and think it's neat that you made them follow you...just like the Mona Lisa! That gorgeous blue paper would have made a totally yummy Christmas card too...I think you should make one with it with a big gorgeous red bow!! Love that textured embossing folder :)

Well, apart from him looking a bit startled, (as most owls do anyway), there's absolutely nothing wrong with it Marisa! It's true, we are our own worse critics.
If ya don't like it, give it to ME! 'coz I DO! lol xxx

I'm obviously not looking at the same card as you Marisa as I think it's just brilliant! I love the way you've made the owl and the embossed panel behind him is perfect. Love the layout too.

Oh, he's just too cute. You know, if I moved in front of the computer, his eyes did follow...yikes.
Just the same, I love the colors and the complete creation.

I think the owl is adorable, however, if he was sitting on my craft table and his eyes were following me, I may get a tiny bit spooked out, lol! Anyway, he does look charming sitting atop those pretty papers! I think you've done a fabulous job with the sketch!
