Just Us Girls #207 - Colour Challenge

JUGS 207 photo JUGS207picA.jpg

Today's challenge is brought to us by Lisa and she has a wonderful mix of colours for us to work with!

For some reason, I was in the mood to make a Christmas card.  Think it was the colour combo and then seeing Lesley's Merry Monday challenge.

I used Jen's Sketch For You To Try pulled out my beloved snowflake die - yeah!  Love using non-traditional Christmas colours, and with a few pops of red, some gold bells and a bit of gold bling I was set.

The rest of the  JUGS team has some wonderful samples to get your inspiration going, so head on over to the Just Us Girls blog, and check out what the Design Team has created.  Then put your creative genes to work and add your card/project to the challenge post on the JUGS blog for the chance to be chosen as the Chic of the Week.   In addition, there is a DT call out for some new members to join the Just Us Girls team! Check today's post for all the details.

Have a fabulous weekend, and I'll be back on Monday with my Mojo Monday card.

The Snowflakes Are Falling

VLV Sketches

Diva Laurie provided this week's Verve CAS sketch.  I'm glad it's CAS week because time was short and I needed to get the last Verve sketch of the month done in order to qualify for the draw.

Since it's Christmas on my blog now, I was sorting through my Christmas papers and came across this absolutely delicious Snowfall Blizzard paper by Bo Bunny which I got on sale after Christmas last year.  Just love this colour combo and the glittered snowflake and flourish pattern is sooo pretty that it was hard to cut into!  Ever have that problem?!

I crimped Verve's Tagged Rectangle die and added a brown snowflake to it -- heck figured since I had a red snowflake on Monday's card, why not have a brown one today.  Added some silver bells and a bit of cording to add to the sparkle.  Gotta love it when Mike's has a 50% off coupon and you have two kids in tow who can each use a coupon for you.  Needless to say, I am a happy mama as I now have gold, silver and multi-coloured bells in my stash :)

So excited to see what Julee has put together for this Friday's Verve release!  Keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes of being the lucky person who wins the entire release (sending subliminal messages to Random.org as we speak LOL!).

Have a fabulous day and just want to let you know how much I appreciate all of you who share a bit of your time with me in my tiny corner of blog land ((hugs))!

Celebrate the Season

Verve

I loved this week's MFT sketch - no skewed panels LOL.  It was on my my hit list  all week and I am just now getting to it.  A little "me time" as a break from all the work I'm doing for hubby, as well as a great excuse to make another Christmas card.

Love this Fancy Pants "Brrr" paper - it's green (my favorite colour) and has lots of  snowflakes on it - score!  I gleefully used my Cuttlebug snowflake die for the big, burgundy snowflake, and after rejoicing in the fact there was no skewed panel on the sketch, I ended up creating one of my own - go figure LOL!

Thanks for popping in today.  Have to get this month's last Verve sketch done so I'll definitely be back before Thursday at midnight.

Until then, I'll be basking in the BC Lions football team's Grey Cup win (equivalent of the NFL Super Bowl) yesterday.  They played and won at home - can't get much better than than :)

Loving My Bronze Snowflake

Christmas

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the flowers on this week's Mojo Monday sketch was to use a big, sparkly, snowflake, so I dug into my Christmas DPs to see what would tickle my fancy.  I pulled some yummy Basic Grey, Echo Park and what I think is some old Stampin' Up designer series paper that worked well together.

My  initial thought was to go with a sparkly, red snowflake, but alas, my supply of such paper seems to have run out so I opted to go with a bronze one instead.  My attempt at keeping red in the mix failed as using a red ribbon overpowered the card and totally wiped out my snowflake!  Thus the  monochromatic card. Thankfully I had some bronze twine to help tie things together (no pun intended LOL).

Hubby has a ton of work for me to do starting the end of this week and carrying on into the New Year, so unfortunately my creative time will have to suffer...sniff, sniff....  Since I refuse to give up my self imposed "Fit and Firm at Fifty" kick until that blessed day in January, as well as having to schedule in all the kids' Christmas activities and getting my own house in order for Christmas, I am hoping to be able to manage three posts a week.  Could be a challenge, but hey, this girl loves a challenge, and after all, tis is the season to believe in miracles, right?!  Will do my best, promise :)

Mojo Christmas

This week's Mojo Monday sketch was a nice simple one.  Love this type of sketch as you can dress it up or keep it CAS - the sky is the limit on what you want to do with it.

For some reason I was in the mood for a Christmas card.  Maybe it's because it's just a short two months away!!  Where has the year gone??!!

Dots and snowflakes abound on this card - love it!   Some silver cording, a few bells, and some dew drops (remember those!) called it a card.   A nice, quick and easy card.

Have a great day and thanks for popping by :)

Christmas Snowflake

I just had to make one more card using this fabulous sketch.  This time I decided to make a Christmas card as the heart was screaming snowflake.  Sorry...same song (aka: sketch), third verse (aka: card)!   Have you figured out I love this sketch yet LOL!

Christmas always brings out this wonderful Cuttlebug snowflake die and this beaded, silver cording I got at Mike's a few years back.   I love snowflakes so it is the predominant theme on this card.  Things looked a bit too "blue" (I'm not a huge blue fan...) so I added the silver bell for a bit of pizazz and Christmas cheer. This qualifies for the Friday Mashup snowflake theme.

Hmmm.....what else can I use instead of a heart...just kidding!  Before you say it, yes, a flower is a definite option that is still brewing as is a shamrock (may have given you a hint about your birthday card, Moe!).  So many options....so many blog readers getting sick of the sketch....better stop while I'm ahead.

Now that I have delved into Christmas, time to get back to my beloved leaves as Fall isn't over yet....snort...!!

Have a great day!!

Color Dare 88

Color Dare 88
Riding Hood Red
Old Olive
Neutral of Choice

Since I was in the mood for a circle card, I immediately went with this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch.  It was a perfect fit for what I had in mind, and I was doing a big happy dance as this doesn't happen to me very often!!  My one creative gene must be spreading some Christmas cheer early LOL!

Out came my newest addiction - the lacy circles.  I paired that with my combination double dot embossing folder kick as they were the perfect look of falling snow to go with the snowflake.  My tag migrated a tad from the sketch so hopefully the mouse police will be buried in the snow overseas and scared to venture out and check up on me :)

The rest of the Team has lots of inspiration for you.  You can check out their creations here:

We'd love you to join us!  Simply create a card using this week's colours and add your card to InLinkz on the The Colour Dare Blog.  If  you are uploading to a public gallery, please make sure to use the keyword CD88.   Each week, Riley will select a Featured Stamper and showcase your card on her blog.

Snowing Mojo

I veered off the sketch a bit here as a few others beat me to the punch using a snowflake.  I still wanted to use one so I opted to go with a square to change things up a bit LOL!   I just had to use a snowflake because we got four inches of snow last night.  One of my favorite things is to wake up to a blanket of freshly fallen snow and just enjoy the beauty of it.  I just love the sight of the deciduous trees with their branches outlined in snow contrasting against the pine trees with snow on their branches.  I also enjoy the quiet a snowfall brings.  It mutes sound so nicely!! You can't even  hear the cars driving down the road :D  Needless to say the kids are bouncing off the walls and went to school fully geared up with sleds in hand so they can go sledding down the hill at recess and lunch time.  To see the joy on their faces just warms my heart :D  May have to have a few races down the hill with them after school - what can I say, I'm a kid at heart!!

I based my card around this wonderful ribbon from Mike's ribbon bin. I  think I got ten rolls of the stuff and just as many in the blue and brown LOL!  The snowflake is a Cuttllebug die with some bling in the middle for some zip.  I crimped the brown panel to add more dimension and used the Swiss Dots embossing folder for the main panel as well as the scalloped square panel.  My "enabling excuse"  is it looks like snow and therefore I just HAD to use it LOL!   Finished the card off by adding a sentiment tag.  It's  hard to see, but there are pink snowflakes on the tag and a bit of bling in the center of one of them.  I fiddled with how to attach the tag for a while and finally settled on just adding a brad and gluing it on :D

That's it for today.   Hope you have a wonderful day!

Snowflake Mojo

I finally got some time to get to this week's Mojo Sketch.  Julee has given us a wonderful, clean sketch to work with since things are starting to get busy with only 49 days until Christmas (sorry I mentioned it!).

The first thing that came to mind for the main image panel was to use a big snowflake.  It's probably a carry over from my wanting to use one for Mercy's sketch last week and opting not to since others beat me to it fair and square.  As we used to say a few years back: "you snooze you lose" LOL!   Anyway, I was originally thinking of going with blues and a silver snowflake but then I found this wonderful paper in my Costco DP Pack, which has been feeling a quite neglected as of late LOL.  It paired up wonderfully with Mellow Moss and cream - two colours that give me warm fuzzies.  Needless to say, my snowflake went from silver to gold in a big hurry.  I used my Cuttlebug Snowflake Die to punch it out and added a gold brad to the middle for a bit of dimension.

Then my lack of visualization abilities swung into full gear.....should the image panel be embossed or plain. I decided an embossed one would look better but then had to try multiple embossed options before I could finally decided on which one to go with.  I should have stuck with my first instinct as that is the one I ended up using!  Have I ever mentioned I am not a very visual person LOL!  Believe it or not, I actually have to physically move a piece of furniture, a picture, decoration etc. before deciding if I like them in a certain place or put a certain way because I can't picture it in my mind for the life of me!  Unfortunately, this wonderful lack of visual/spacial skill carries over into my card making and as a result often provides me with many wonderful left overs for future cards LOL!  I used my circle and scalloped circle nesties for the sentiment and added a row of piercing underneath it for a little added something.  Yummy cream, satin ribbon and three brads finished things off.

Thanks so much for popping in listening to my card making "issues" LOL!  Have a great weekend :D  I'm off to help DH cook (well actually, DH is doing the cooking -- good thing too!! -- and I'm prep girl and sues chef) for the Alpha Retreat being held at our church this weekend.  We get do feed 80+ people three meals so I'll be a busy girl.  Verve Sketch With A Twist will just have to wait a few days.  Blessings!
