Peaceful Wishes for Pals

This week Pals Paper Arts has this wonderful inspiration piece to work from.  Love all the white mixed with off whites, gold and silver.  Couldn't pass up playing along as I love using white space :)

While trying to decide what to do for this card, a ribbon wreath came to mind.  I have seen these around blogland for a while and today was the day to try one.  I used 1/4" white grosgrain ribbon and went to work.  Once complete, I added some gold half pearls, a button and some beaded gold twine for the bow.  It's hard to tell in the picture (had to use the light box as no time to take a picture tomorrow morning edit:  new picture now posted), but I used some delicious brushed gold paper for my layers.  The sentiment is also gold.  Didn't add anything else as I wanted the wreath to be the focal point of the card.  You can find the tutorial here if you are interested.

Thanks for visiting today and hope your Christmas preparations are well under way.  I'm well under control except for miserably failing in the card department :(  Will have to use some old cards for those who have to get mailed this week (aka out of town family) and locals will benefit from new ones, or they'll get an extra special birthday card next year in lieu of a Christmas card this year.  Hate myself for being in this position....on the upside, think I have my first New Year's resolution!

Dream Big Pals

This was a fun Pals Paper Arts sketch so I thought I would give it a go. Still playing with my new Verve flowers and loving them :)

Kept things pretty simple for this card. I used the Act 48 Curtain Call colours (and just realized I missed the submission deadline again!) as they were wonderful flower colours and there was green for the stems LOL!    I popped up the middle flower and added buttons to the centers.  Had to look high and low for a purple button, and this was the best I could do.  It' a very dark purple which almost looks black, but it is purple, I promise!  My purple issues continued when I realized I didn't have matching ribbon so I had to go with this one instead.  The sentiment panel is in lieu of the circle and a few black half pearls around it added a little "oomph".

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!  Thanks for sharing a part of yours with me (((hugs)))

Leaves Are My Pals

Well, I survived day one of VBS (Vacation Bible School) yesterday  -- phew!!  We had a typical Day 1 with everything running late, but I have a great group of  ten Grade 4/5 kids to call mine for the week.

Our theme this year is India, in particular supporting the Dalits who are the lowest of the lowest cast there.  It breaks my heart to even think of what they have to endure....they can't draw water from a public well by themselves and have to rely on someone else to do it for them, which very rarely happens because they are considered so "unclean" that nobody will.  If they do it themselves, they are beaten and sometimes even killed!  They basically have no rights whatsoever, no schooling for education or jobs and many other horrible restrictions.  As part of VBS this year, we are raising money to send some missionaries who work among the Dalits so a well can be dug in their area.  This will allow them to draw their own water for their families, village and crops.  Last year we raised $1,500 for an orphanage in Uganda so I'm hoping we can do the same or more this year for the Dalits.

After a short nap to recover from Day 1 (what can I say, I'm not as young as I used to be LOL!) I made this CAS card for the Pals Paper Arts Colour Challenge.  I found this great Studio G leaf image at one of the LSS I visit and was beyond happy as it is as close to PTI's Turning Leaf set as I'll get for now!

The gray panel was embossed with Diamonds in the Rough, and the ribbon came from a past ribbon bin diving adventure at Michael's.  I actually dug for another 15 minutes trying to find a second spool because I liked it so much, but came up empty (insert pouty face).  One of these days I just may tip that ruddy ribbon bin over so it is easier to dig through...sure the managers would love that one - not!! Yes, I definitely have a love hate relationship with that bin LOL!

Today I'm off for Day 2 of VBS and am wearing a gorgeous sari!!   Thanks to a wonderful lady who called her friends, we have about 25 of them on loan for the leaders to be able to wear if they want to.  The beading and embroidery work on mine is amazing!  Hopefully it won't get too hot today or I'll be melting!

Better run!  Hope to be able to past again soon.

Pals Paper Art Sketch #38

I loved this Pals Paper Art sketch when I saw it so decided to give it a go.  Sorry to bring yet another Mother's Day card your way, but they are the flavor of the month right now with friends requesting some.

I love this Marvy flower punch as it isn't a solid punch and permits the background colour to show through - kind of like the Apron Lace border punch.  I kept things simple once again and quite like the outcome.  The Swiss Dots embossing folder gives things a bit of texture and I just love the script of the Verve "Mom" sentiment.

It's killing me to have to keep things short and sweet today (yes, I have the gift of the gab LOL!) but there is a lot on the agenda and time is a ticking.  A big thank you to all of you who make my day by taking the time to visit me (((hugs))).  Have a good one :D

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Pals Paper Arts Colour Challenge this week was perfect for a birthday card I had to make for my blogging friend, Maureen over at Buttons and Bling.  She is a St. Patty's Day baby and since this card may not make it to her in time for her birthday (our mail system is crazy at best!) I'm posting it here before I send it to her so she can make sure to get it before March 17th.  Happy Birthday, Maureen!!

As luck would have it, I actually received this Bella as a bonus gift with an on-line order.  Needless to say, I thought of Maureen right away.  My follow up thought was, hey, this Bella looks like me because my hair is just as curly and I love the colour green! It was meant to be :D

My card was based on this week's Stepping Stone's Sketch, but with the Bella being as large as she was it is a bit of a stretch from the sketch.  I guess I should have made a larger card!  Anyway, I coloured her with Twinkling H2Os which reminded me once again that I am far from a colouring guru LOL!  The celery panel actually has shamrocks stamped all over it but it got pretty well covered up. I popped up the shamrocks in her bucket and added a button on the sentiment panel.  Even managed to sneek my Swiss Dots embossing folder in - grin :D

Spring Break is almost half way done now and we have had a great week visiting friends we don't get to see on a regular basis due to where they live.  I have also been able to go through all the closets to get rid of clothes that are too small etc. and have put a big dint in the basement cleanup job - yeah!!  Just need to take a run to the Sally Ann, recycle depot and maybe the dump and we will be well on our way to an organized and decluttered basement!  Thus my self proclaimed reward of some stamping time today - said doing the happy dance LOL!

Thanks for dropping by!  Have a fabulous weekend :D
